62 Must have Good Habits in Children

How many of us are really successful in inculcating good habits in our children? Good habits later in life makes the personality of a person. Imbibing good habits in children is by and large every parents' duty. The list here may look exhaustive but consists of very small day to day activities, easy to follow. Don't we all actually struggle to help our children practice even the basic manners? Regular practice of certain way of doing things, at certain time, or among certain people make the child imbibe those practices as habits within them.

Experts say if children follow some habits for a long period of their young age, these habits stay with the child even when they grow up and become old. So, what are the habits parents have to teach the child? Have these good habits changed with time? May be yes, considering the new world of technological gadgets and junk food.


  1. Brush teeth two times daily. Morning and before going to sleep

  2. Drink warm water in morning after you wake up

  3. Wash hands every time after using washroom

  4. Always wash hands before and after eating anything.

  5. Keep your toys back in their place after you are done with playing

  6. Keep your room clean. Arrange things at proper places

  7. Eat vegetables, grains, and fruits. Junk food is not good for health. Eat food that mother cooks at home. Avoid soda/soft drinks.

  8. Drink plenty of water daily

  9. Sleep on time in night so that you have 8-10 hours of sound sleep

  10. Play outdoor games rather than staying indoor

  11. Limit screen time to 20-20 minutes TV or I-Pad.

  12. Always wash hands after returning home from outside

  13. Bath everyday and keep your body clean

  14. Keep your hair clean and combed

  15. Greet everyone you meet

  16. Learn and follow Table Manners

  17. Hold the door for the person coming after you

  18. Be kind to smaller kids than you

  19. Be respectful to grown up people

  20. Be kind and helpful to everyone

  21. Always wait for your turn in a queue/line

  22. Use Sorry, Excuse Me, and Thank you - these are the golden words

  23. Help parents at home

  24. Don't interrupt when someone is speaking

  25. Don't force others to do anything they don't want to

  26. Respect others choice

  27. Always offer others when eating anything

  28. Eat all meals, Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner. Don't skip any meal

  29. Think positive towards hope

  30. Believe in being kind than being aggressive

  31. Be truthful and loyal.

  32. Don't waste food.

  33. Don't shout and keep your voice normal when talking

  34. Don't hit anyone

  35. Share things with others

  36. Protect nature, including plants, animals, and birds

  37. Don't nag to force parents to buy you toys or anything

  38. Don't steel anything

  39. Make friends

  40. Pray to God and thank Him daily

  41. Don't talk when eating food

  42. Be Happy

  43. Be Self Dependent. Do your work yourself as much as possible

  44. Keep your dishes back in kitchen after eating

  45. Wake up on time for school every morning

  46. Accept defeat

  47. Work hard. Nothing great is achieved without hard work

  48. Keep your clothes, bag pack, and shoes at right places after school

  49. Don't litter. Always use dustbin to throw waste

  50. Do not tease others

  51. Be helpful to all

  52. Don't put too loud music or TV that can annoy others near you

  53. Remember to give turn to others wherever needed

  54. Don't be greedy

  55. Don't copy in school

  56. Respect your teachers

  57. Value money. Practice to save money

  58. Practice 20 min reading everyday

  59. Fix your study time for everyday

  60. Don't use bad words for anyone

  61. Be patient

  62. Last but not the least, go to potty everyday..it is very important for body health and overall well being :-)

I am a mother of 8 year old and I am still struggling to make my son practice these habits. It is a continuous process, no one is a perfect parent, so we have to keep on reminding kids to imbibe these good habits. Hope this list is of help, if you have any suggestions, please share with me.
